Heidi Warner, FSO-PA

The Flotilla Commander appoints a single person to the position of Public Affairs Officer (FSO-PA). This person is responsible for getting articles and information such as Vessel Examination events and Public Education courses into the various media. He/she is responsible for arranging or supporting various local events to get the Auxiliary message out about water-way and boating safety. The FSO-PA does everything he/she can to show our community that we are here to be of service to them by presenting public education courses in boating safety in our classroom as well as in the community’s schools and businesses. Although the FSO-PA is a single person, every member of the Auxiliary is part of the Public Affairs team in their community actions and the manner they present themselves to the public.

Summary of Dunedin Flotilla 11-10 Public Affairs Activities

The month of May was chock full of tremendous participation by Flotilla 11-10’s members in Division wide National Boating Safety Week (NSBW) events and coordination with the “Gold Side” US Coast Guard R&D Radar missions. Heidi is busy consolidating a Division wide report on NSBW – watch for her article in the CHIP LOG.

May 16 – Vessel Safety Checks at Caledesi Island

Tom Loughlin, Bill Clark, Buddy Casale, Elaine Clark and Heidi Warner were greeted by a beautiful day at Caledesi Island on May 16 for our Vessel Safety Check day. Heidi stayed busy manning a table full of Public Safety information while the rest of the crew conducted Vessel Exams. Look for pictures on our web site. We made great friends and a new partner with the park rangers, conducted 12 vessel exams and signed up 5 new Aux recruits.

Publicity

St. Pete Times – Clearwater and Dunedin Flotilla have paired up in a joint ad for our Boating Safety classes which will be published starting with our June classes.

C&N Publications - Heidi has just met with C&N Publication’s editor Dan Bobel and will be publishing a one quarter page USCG Aux editorial column monthly. C&N publication’s newspapers are mailed monthly to a territory which includes Dunedin and areas north through southwest Pasco County / Trinity area. Look for lots of local pictures of our activities and links to the Division boating class web site. Dunedin Flotilla’s phone number as point of contact is being confirmed with staff officers.

Moody Radio – Heidi and Tom Loughlin will be meeting with Moody Radio to put together radio public safety spots the week of June 8th.
